Flying to Tasmania
You can
fly to Tasmania from any capital city in Australia.
From Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney you can
fly direct. Tasmania has four entry points for inbound
flights – Burnie
(North West coast), Devonport (North West coast), Launceston
(Tasmania’s northern ‘capital’) and
the harbour-side city of Hobart (Tasmania’s state
capital).
At Tas Vacations we recommend flying with Virgin
Blue.
Virgin Blue has regular flights at great prices and
is generally more flexible for the traveller. We have
a link to Virgin Blue’s website here for your
convenience. Bookings through this site will not appear
on your Travel File when booking with Tas Vacations
so keep your itinerary handy for booking the correct
dates for accommodation and car rental. The car rental
companies require your flight times and numbers also.
 |
HINT: We recommend booking your airfares first then
secure accommodation and car hire next. We do
recommend however that you check accommodation
availability in peak times prior to booking flights
especially from late December through to April. |
Sailing to Tasmania
Two ships sail to Tasmania
regularly; they are Spirit of Tasmania I & II.
They sail from Melbourne to
Devonport and Devonport to Melbourne each night and
in peak season daily also.
The Federal Government provides a subsidy for vehicles
to travel across Bass Strait making it very cost effective
to bring your own car. There is a range of cabin styles
and seating options on the Spirit of Tasmania ships.
