Below are some tips that our consultants have compiled to help you along your way.

Salamanca Market operates every Saturday in Hobart betwen 8.30am and 3.0pm and features an array of fine Tasmanian arts and crafts, fresh produce and innovative local design.
The speed limit over the Tasman Bridge (Hobart) is 70km/h and there are permanent speed cameras mounted on the bridge.
Because Strahan is nearly 5 hours from Hobart in driving time, 2 nights in Strahan are recommended. This also helps if you are planning to do a cruise on the Gordon River and/or a journey on the West Coast Wilderness Railway, because the attractions generally depart at around 9 or 10am (some afternoon departures occur in the warmer months) which means that you have to wait until your second day in Strahan to do those attractions.
Some of Tassie's best beaches are located in the far north-east (Bay of Fires, for example), and this area is often missed off even a 10 night itinerary. Even if you cannot fit in a night's stay in this area, it is well worth the detour if you can find the time.

Accommodation at Cradle Mountain is generally a little more expensive due to the limited number of properties on Cradle Mountain Road and the special wilderness area that it is. If you are on a budget itinerary and do not want to upgrade to stay at Cradle Mountain, Sheffield ('Town of Murals') is located only 45 minutes from Cradle Mountain and has some budget options that could suit your budget.
Maria Island is a great day trip when you are staying on the east coast, or even from Hobart. The ferry only leaves from Triabunna once or twice a day (and the same from Darlington on Maria Island) depending on demand, and tickets are sold at the Tasmanian Visitor Information Centre in Triabunna.
If you are picking up a rental vehicle in Launceston or Hobart, there will be additional airport surcharges applied to your booking which you need to pay for at the time of pick-up (commonly referred to as Premium Location Surcharge). If you want to avoid paying this surcharge, and you are arriving during office hours, you may choose to catch the Airport Transfer coach (approximately $13 per person, one way) or take a taxi (approximately a $40 fare from either airport) into the city to the car rental city depot, and pick the car up from there. Additionally, some car rental companies offer free hotel delivery for centrally located hotels, which can be even more convenient. Please ask at the time of booking.
Car rental daily rates are based on 24 hour periods, therefore if you are picking up a car for your holiday at 12 noon one day, and dropping it off by 12 noon on the next, it would calculate to one day rental period. If you dropped it off at 3pm instead, it would calculate to be two days rental. If the difference is only a few hours, you may choose to organise to pick up the car a little later and drop off a little earlier (particularly if you have to check in for a flight an hour earlier anyway!), and this can avoid having to pay another full days rental.
