Gray Line Tours - Maria Island Day Tour

Zuleika and I were invited to join Gray Line Tours on their full day tour to Maria Island. Neither of us had been to Maria Island before, so this was our first time visiting.

We departed Hobart at 08:15am and travelled via historic Richmond Village, to the East Coast town of Triabunna (where the Maria Island ferry departs from).

Along the way we were given expert commentary from one of the coach driver/ guides about Tasmania’s history.

We boarded the ferry at 10:30am and were met with a lovely morning tea (freshly made muffin) and a hot/cold beverage from the onboard café (exclusive to Gray Line day tour guests).

The ferry ride was approximately 45 minutes to Darlington the town of Maria Island. We had a quick look around Darlington before heading off on a walk to the Fossil Cliffs one of the popular walking tracks on Maria, where the views along the coastline were simply stunning. We then returned back to Darlington where we had our lunch by the beach (lunch is also included with the Gray Line day tour).

After lunch we went to another popular walking spot, The Painted Cliffs where we were able to hang out with some of the famous Maria Island local wombats along the way!!!

Maria Island is such a beautiful island full of rich Tasmanian Convict and Aboriginal history, wildlife and amazing scenery.

We would highly recommend adding a visit to Maria Island into your next Tasmanian holiday – and why not let Gray Line Tours take the hassle out of getting there with their all-inclusive day tour departing from Hobart.
